YOGA THERAPY

***Due to recent requirements from the state of Ohio, Yoga Therapy sessions in my personal studio or clients’ homes have moved to only teletherapy, until further notice.***

Yoga Therapy sessions are typically available through a variety of settings: my personal studio, clients’ homes, or teletherapy.  My approach is informed by my training as a certified Yoga Therapist, my professional work as a practicing clinical social worker, as well as my own life experiences that affirm a sense of “lived expertise” -- the kinds that each of us brings to the mat and to our practice together:

  1. First, before we begin any specific techniques and practices, it is important that we invest in an initial consultation, usually lasting 30-45 minutes. During this dialogue, we get to know one another, discuss personal strengths and concerns, and begin discerning your goals.

  2. After the initial consultation, I use what you shared to inform and recommend a tailored therapeutic program, developed solely for you.

  3. Then, we establish a schedule and partner on the plan.

  4. Ultimately, my hope and intention is that you develop skills, dispositions, and sustainable practices that help you meet your goals.

CLINICAL THERAPY

***At this time, I currently do not accept clients for psychotherapy through Shine Yoga Therapy + Wellness.***

As an independently licensed, insured, and currently-practicing full time clinical social worker (LISW) in Ohio, I have extensive experience successfully treating clients with a variety of mental health challenges, recurring troubles, and clinical diagnoses. I am a practitioner who deeply respects and fully utilizes evidence-based modalities.

I also believe that many clients can benefit from the emerging research of complementary ‘bottom-up’ practices to support the mind-body connection in healing. Researchers like Bessel van der Kolk & David Emerson suggest -- and inform my own clinical practice -- that intentional connections to one’s body are imperative to support recovery and growth in wellness.

My specialty interests, include:

  • Eating disorders & body image

  • Anxiety and depression

  • PTSD & trauma

  • Stress management

  • Emotional regulation & balance

  • Addiction

  • Aging with gratitude, courage, & grace

My preferred psychotherapeutic modalities include:

  • Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT)

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

  • Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT)

  • Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT, listed provider)

  • Mindful Self-Compassion

  • Expressive Art Modalities

Should you be interested in professional recommendations, please contact your insurance company or, if you are uninsured, feel free to contact me for recommendations (including to where I currently practice) here.

CONSULTING & SUPERVISION

CONSULTING & SUPERVISION

Beginning October 2020, I will be able to offer supervision for new LSWs. I continue to offer consulting services, supporting and informing the interdisciplinary explorations of psychotherapy & Yoga Therapy. Whether you are a licensed psychologist, LISW, LPCC, Yoga Therapist, or yoga teacher, I’m committed to the type of collaboration underscored by a famous Ram Dass quote:

“We’re all just walking each other home.”

My consulting philosophy starts by listening -- actively listening -- to your needs. You have goals you want to achieve; and, I believe my role / partnership is most helpful when I demonstrate constructivist dispositions of professionalism, respect, and knowledge-making that supports you reaching those goals. I believe in shared accountability and the assets of “lived experiences”. People I’ve collaborated with describe me as upbeat, affirming, warm, client-centered, and results-oriented.

As a pyschotherapist, I have extensive experience across a wide breadth of roles and functions, including: admissions / screening / diagnostics, partial hospitalization, intensive outpatient, and outpatient programming. I have also developed and implemented original curricula -- frequently including expressive arts and Yoga Therapy -- for weekly ACT, Mindfulness & Spirituality / Art client groups.

I have been practicing yoga for 15 years, and teaching yoga for nearly a decade. Along the way I have:

  • Refined a specialty of teaching yoga to clients struggling with eating and body image concerns -- including at some of the top eating disorder programs in Ohio: The Lindner Center of Hope, The Center for Balanced Living, and The Emily Program.

  • Developed and taught coursework as an Adjunct Faculty Yoga Instructor for multiple semesters to university students in Ohio, served as a guest Yoga Instructor for a Summer university program in China, and led recurring classes, series, and workshops at some of my favorite Yoga studios where I’ve preferred to practice too.

  • Taught Hatha Yoga to adolescents in middle and high schools, older adults at a local Senior Center, and with clients recovering from addictive practices through Y12SR (Yoga for 12 Step Recovery).

Ultimately I have been blessed to study with masters and leaders in the worlds of Yoga, Yoga Therapy, and Ayurveda, including: Joseph Le Page, Lilian Le Page, Dr. Ananda Balayogi Bhavanani, Amy Weintraub, Nikki Myers, David Emerson, Judith Lasater, Lillias Fullen, and Claudia Welch, among numerous others who have shone and shared their light to inform and enrich my path, on and off the mat. I am continually grateful.

GROUPS & WORKSHOPS

GROUPS, WORKSHOPS, & SERIES

Even for those who are most resilient, life can sometimes feel pretty overwhelming at times. If you are an: employer who leads a business / non-profit, member of a valuable team / organization, provider of health care or integrative medicine, or run a yoga studio, consider how a low-key, high-engagement workshop series can help support and sustain your community of people -- both inside and outside of their daily mission. Our partnership can help your people mindfully support themselves, build on their personal assets for increased resilience, and enhance their mind-body connection.

I can develop and tailor an intentional workshop or series to nurture your vision, wellness goals, and people. Together we can provide a personalized Yoga Therapy program, infused with evidence-based clinical practices, and integrated with expressive / arts-informed activities.

In these often chaotic and stressful times, let me help you provide the gift of a new angle -- one that (A) uniquely challenges the traditional perspectives of how to support your people and (B) refreshes a sustained perspective of wellness and personal connection.
